We presented the Youth '24 report, which aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the situation of Hungarian youth, highlighting the most important youth policy decisions, events, and trends of 2024.

At the launch event, our Head of Research, Georgina Kiss-Kozma, outlined the five key developments in youth affairs in 2024:

  1. The "Year of Super Elections": Multiple significant elections took place in 2024, emphasizing the political engagement and participation of young people.
  2. Regulation of artificial intelligences and restrictions on mobile phone use in schools: New laws on AI ethics were introduced, alongside stricter rules on mobile phone use in schools.
  3. Hungarian family policy measures: Changes to tax benefits and housing programs aimed at supporting young families.
  4. Response to the youth housing crisis.
  5. The importance of large-scale youth research: This research repeated every four years provides an in-depth understanding of young people’s circumstances and outlooks.

Georgina Kiss-Kozma also shared experts’ expectations for 2025, identifying the key issues shaping youth policy in the coming year, including:

  • Government initiatives to improve the housing situation;
  • Tax benefits supporting family planning;
  • Employment loans;
  • The renewal of the national youth strategy;
  • Ongoing disputes between the Hungarian government and EU decision-makers over Erasmus+ and Horizon programs.

Following the presentation, a roundtable discussion was held, featuring:

  • Dorina Pető, Program Leader at MCC Egészségedre; Co-founder of the Mélylevegő Projekt ("Deep Breath Project");
  • Gergely Réti, Dorm Director, Mathias Corvinus Collegium;
  • Enikő Szakos, Researcher at the Learning Institute; Head of Department, NUPS Institute for Strategy and Security Studies;
  • Bálint László Tóth, Researcher, MCC Center for Political Science.
