More and more young people are planning to travel this summer, according to the latest survey from the Youth Research Institute. Nearly seven out of ten respondents aged 15–39 (65%) stated that they would like to go on holiday in 2025, marking a significant increase compared to previous years.
Both domestic and international destinations are popular among young travellers. While in 2024 the majority of respondents chose primarily domestic trips (42%), this year, more people (52%) plan to combine travel within Hungary with trips abroad. This combination of domestic and international holidays is especially common among those with higher levels of education.
In 2024, the youngest age group (15–17-year-olds) travelled the most — likely because many still travel with their parents. In 2025, however, the largest increase in travel interest was observed among 18–24-year-olds: 73% reported plans to go on vacation this year. Interest in travel is particularly high among young people living in Budapest and among students.
Respondent’s financial circumstances play a significant role in travel opportunities. According to the research, those who manage their finances more easily are more likely to be able to plan a holiday, while those living under more difficult circumstances are less likely to travel.
The findings suggest that vacations and travel continue to be an important part of young people’s lives. For many, 2025 appears to be a year focused on gaining new experiences and taking advantage of expanding travel opportunities.
The representative survey was conducted in January 2025 using the CAWI (computer-assisted web interviewing) method. A total of 1,000 Hungarian citizens aged 15–39 participated.
