Youth Research Institute & MCC Center for Sociology 14 May 2024
First Announcement & Call for Papers
Over the course of the past year, the Youth Research Institute and our academic partners worked together to review, analyse and compile the top issues and phenomena impacting young people today. In the most recent edition of our Annual Youth Report series, Ifjúság’23, we presented the top five challenges Hungarian youth faced in 2023 and what we predict will be most relevant in 2024. Among these, AI technology, political activity, and mental wellbeing will be particularly prevalent.
As 2024 advances and these issues become increasingly clearer, we would like to cast an even wider gaze at youth and their surroundings globally. To be able to launch a constructive dialogue on the topic, the Youth Research Institute will host aspiring PhD students to share their research, findings, and perspectives on the state of youth and the dynamics of generations today on the following topics:
- The impact and reception of AI technology and tools among youth;
- Youth political activism against the backdrop of upcoming and ongoing election campaigns in 2024;
- The rise of mental health challenges for young people over the past few years.
We look forward to receiving contributions for oral presentations and panel discussions on these and related themes within social sciences in English for our upcoming conference. “Emerging Voices: Perspectives from the Next Generation of Scholars in Youth Research” will be held in Budapest, Hungary on 14 May 2024.
Presenters at the conference will also have the opportunity to publish their work in our recently launched academic journal, Youth and Generation Studies, which provides a platform for researchers in this field.
