On 31st of March the panel discussion titled Swipe, Scroll, Engage: How Social Media Shapes Youth’s Identity took place at Scruton Salon, during which invited speakers discussed the effects of social media on the mental health, digital habits and political thinking of young people.

The discussion also discussed the so-called attention economy, in which the primary goal of large companies is to gain and retain the attention of users, as this provides them with the greatest profit.

Dr. Leonardo Orlando, philosopher, researcher, MCC Visiting Researcher, and Ákos Pöltl, Youth Research Institute's Family Safety Expert, analyzed how the online space is transforming the identity and social relations of young people, as well as the challenges posed by the issue of online safety and internet addiction. The discussion was moderated by Enikő Szakos, Head of the Strategy Department at NKE NITK, and Educational Researcher at MCC TKI.
