The Youth Research Institute attended the Second International Children and Youth Perspectives Conference in Prague, organised by the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University. The event has provided an important international forum for child and youth research for the second year this time. Speakers attending the conference examined what it means to be a child and a young person today, as well as how various social and cultural changes shape this early stage of our lives. YRI Deputy Director Georgina Kiss-Kozma PhD gave her presentation on how digital media has transformed the daily lives, future plans, and relationships of young people, and how these trends affect their relationships and their attitudes towards family creation. She emphasised that demographic processes cannot be fully understood without taking into account the deep cultural changes that influence the choices young people make and thus, starting a family is not only the matter of economics but also of culture.
